About Us
Members are dispersed in Bolton, Brighton, Cardiff, Gloucester, Leicester, London and Newport. Like other ethnic minorities in the UK we share the history of being excluded can generally be defined as possibly encountering discrimination on grounds of race, culture, colour, language, and faith. Most certainly, individuals and families face difficulties in accessing mainstream services and decision-making process. Tokkuma aims to be the representative voice, and a vehicle for raising awareness to achieve social integration in Britain. At local level Tokkuma will:
1. Assess the needs of individuals and families,
2. Dialogue and consult with mainstream service providers on how to meet members’ needs,
3. Serve as a link between members and relevant statutory/voluntary agencies, as well as to established careers and training organisations,
4. Research general or specialist fields of advice work to remain up-to date with appropriate legislation and procedures – but also interpret and explain them, or refer to solicitors, social workers, human resource managers etc.
